Few players in the last 50 years have felt the kinship with the Negro Leagues that Hall of Famer Dave Winfield feels. “I’ve always known that they made it possible for me to have the career and life that I have had,” he says.

What a player. Winfield finished his career with 3,000 hits, more than 5,000 total bases and seven Gold Gloves. Buck O’Neil used to say of Winfield: “He could do anything on a baseball diamond.”
